Rick Duncan, OM at Whitewater Broadcasting adds PD duties at Country/WCNB(AM) & WIFE-FM (1580am, 100.3fm; both Connersville)
Brill Media Company recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They own several Evansville radio stations (WBKW/WKDQ/WOMI/WSTO/WVJS), other radio properties in Colorado, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and
Wisconsin, several Michigan newspapers & buying guides, was forced into bankruptcy by its bondholders who took them to bankruptcy court last month. According to several of Tom Raithel's articles in The Evansville Courier &
Press, the company will operate under the supervision of the court, not owner Alan Brill. Bondholders petitioned the court for involuntary bankruptcy back in January; asking the court to place the company in Chapter 7 which
would have closed the business entirely and made for an asset sale so proceeds could be used to pay off debt. According to court filings, the company owes $136.2 million and have less than $527,000 in cash. Also, the filings state
that as of 30 November 2001, the company had income of $6.3 million and interests expenses of $17.6 million. IRW will keep tabs on this unfolding saga for sure and follow-up as news occurs.
