Northeast

New to the news department is Kurt Deffenbaugh at News-Talk/WOWO's (1190am, Fort Wayne). Deffenbaugh starts March 6th and will replace James Measel, who moves onto a group of stations in southern Michigan. Deffenbaugh arrives from Findlay, Ohio, where he was the morning news anchor at WKXA.

To avoid any promotion of "Star 94.1" (Modern AC/WYSR 94.1fm, Roanoke), CHR/WMEE (97.3fm, Fort Wayne) has changed its cell phone call in number from "Star 9 7 3" to "Pound [#] 9 7 3"

Scott Kolesar arrives as Production Director for the Kovas Communications stations: Sports/WGL(AM), WGL-FM & WGLL(AM), Alternative/WEJE, and Modern AC/WYSR. Also new at Kovas is GSM Nancy Cunningham.

Northcentral

CHR/WNDU (92.9fm, South Bend) adds McVay Media's Jerry King as its new consultant. No word yet on the PD search.

WFRI (100.1fm, Winamac) hits the airwaves as a simulcast of Religious/WFRN (104.7fm, Elkhart)

Northwest

Valparaiso University's WVUR (95.1fm, Valparaiso) was shut down earlier this month, due to an offensive broadcast. Management fired two DJ's and apologized for the offending broadcast. The Lutheran college has a policy on sexual harassment and sexual orientation, and the broadcast commented on those rules. WVUR will return to the airwaves once its staff completes a sensitivity training program.

AC/WNWI (1080am, Valparaiso) moves its city of license to Oak Lawn, Illinois and boosts power to 1900 watts.

Condolences to the family of Ralph Townsley, who died on February 11 at age 86. Townsley, the Chief Engineer at Purdue University's WBAA (920am, 101.3fm, both West Lafayette) from 1941-1943, and again from 1946, until his retirement in 1982. He started working at WBAA in the early 1930's.

Central

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that Indiana University President Myles Brand will have a draft, for a proposed "Communications Technology Complex" which includes new studios for WFYI Radio and Television.

Hot AC/WENS (97.1fm, Shelbyville) names Julie Diamond Apple as their Local Sales Manager.
