In the 1990's, Contemporary Media owner Michael Rice was jailed, and stripped of FCC radio licenses, for sexually abusing children. Rice has retained the licenses, but not control of the stations, while he appealed the case. IRW has learned that the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear Rice's appeal of the FCC's character policy. In Indiana, Contemporary Media owns WBOW (640am, Terre Haute), WBUZ(AM) (1230am, Terre Haute), and WZZQ-FM (107.5fm, Terre Haute). Several national publications report that Rice will be formally stripped of the licenses this June.

Some changes at Country/WYGB (102.9fm, Edinburgh). Jim Burgan is the new PD - he'll also do afternoons, as well as nights at sister Hot AC/WRZQ (107.3fm, Greensburg). Also at Keith Reising's stations, Karen Steele-Avery departs as News Director of WRZQ/WYGB for Emmis Communications' Network Indiana where she will anchor newscasts for the statewide network, as well as some work for their News-Talk/WIBC (1070, Indianapolis). Replacing Steele-Avery at WRZQ/WYGB is Dana Murphy. Her previous radio gigs include WQKC/WZZB in Seymour.

Rob Burton, GM at WABX/WIKY/WJPS is elevated to VP/Market Manager for the three South Central Communications' Evansville stations.

That's it for this issue. See you in a week!
