Every so often, we receive queries as to what kind of stories get printed here. Here's a primer...

IRW generally writes stories about format changes, prominent staff departures, changes in technical facilities (new tower, changes in power, ERP, etc., but not a new light bulb at the top of the tower :-), and things like this. We'll also print if a station gets knocked off the air, for a significant amount of time. Did your station's transmitter get damaged or destroyed due to the high winds of a thunderstorm this spring? Was something damaged over the winter due to extreme cold or ice? These stories get printed. Unfortunately, we find in combing media sources that instances like this rarely are reported, but IRW knows of engineering folks who get excited over these kinds of stories :-)

Amongst the things we don't print include successful station promotions (We recommend using other print and online broadcast media resources). Same goes with contests that lead to a winner. We did bend that rule once, when a certain DJ got fired over such a contest...

We're also not concert with radio station mega-concert lineups - Again, other well-established, well-read venues exist for promotion of such.

One thing we are going to get into is the distribution of available positions we know of. To have your job posted, please e-mail us (irw@well.com) with the job description, where to send pertinent materials (resumes, tapes, etc.), and, if applicable, an end date to your search. We'll be sure to print your job listing in our next issue. As for the other side of the coin ("situations wanted"), the jury is still out on that one. We know of plenty of places to post your availability, we're just not sure we want to try and compete with them. As always, comments are welcome on anything we do.

Now, onto the news...

Northeast

Here's the new airstaff lineup at Alternative/WEJE (102.3fm, Auburn):

6am - 10am - Mo & Sarah
10am - 3pm - Travis Meyer ("Buster")
3pm - 8pm - J.J. Fabini (PD) (Fabini and Mo & Sarah flip shifts)
8pm - 10pm - Matt Goshert ("Matt Jericho")
10pm - 12am - Loveline (Westwood One)

Northwest

According to the National Radio Club's DX News, WWCA (1270am, Gary) is off the air. If you know more about this story, do drop us an e-mail and let us know. (irw@well.com)

Alternative/WSHP (95.7fm, Attica) adds Dan Somers in afternoons.

Central

A fire in the engineering room at Clear Channel Indianapolis cluster (WFBQ/WNDE/WRZX) has taken Sports/WNDE (1260am, Indianapolis) off the air. WNDE went silent on Friday at about 9:30pm. IRW hears that the station should be up by this evening.

Some changes at Radio One properties WHHH & WTLC-FM (96.3fm, Indianapolis; 106.7fm, Greenwood). According to Marc Allan's article in The Indianapolis Star, WHHH is now "Hot 96.3, Indy's Blazin' Hip-Hop and R&B." Hot 96.3 has DJ's mixing music in the studio at Noon, 5pm, and 9pm. They also added The Russ Parr show, which originates from Radio One sister station WKYS in Washington, DC. WHHH's former morning show, Kyle Street, Cindy Wine, and Tony Lamont all are reassigned within Radio One/Indianapolis: Street will produce Russ Parr's show locally, plus hold down an airshift, Wine will work at Jazz/WYJZ (100.9fm, Lebanon), and Lamont will return to WTLC-FM holding down middays. Only two departures concerning WHHH: PD/middays Scott Wheeler, and early evening guy Jeff Page. Replacing Wheeler is WTLC-FM PD Brian Wallace. Now, over at WTLC-FM, they're now "R&B and Classic Soul From the '70's, '80's, '90's, and Today." WTLC also eliminates rap or hip-hop music.

Religious/WBRI(AM) & WXIR-FM (1500am, Indianapolis; 98.3fm, Plainfield) renews its contract with Spoken Word Images for voiceover work.

Where Are They Now? Lisa Biello, formerly nights at then-Alternative/WEDJ (107.1fm, Danville) is now APD/MD/afternoons at WHRL in Albany, New York.

Southwest

A sale slips under our nose as WBNL(AM) (1540am, Boonville) is sold by John Engelbrecht to Turpen Communications LLC. This was reported back in the May 18th issue of Radio & Records.

That's it for this issue. See you in a week!
