Before we dive into the latest news, we need to tell you about Denny Nugent's early retirement from Moody Radio in Chicago. Here's a synopsis of his career. Mr. Nugent began in radio at age 15 in July 1967 at WTCJ in Tell City. He did evenings. While in college (Indiana University), Mr. Nugent worked for WTCJ, WHON (Richmond) and for WTTS in Bloomington. Then it was off to Columbus, Ohio (WRFD, WTVN), Louisville, Kentucky (WHAS), Cincinnati (WKRC), Phoenix, Arizona (KOY), Cleveland (WGAR) then Moody Radio, where he became National PD in 2004.

This Week in Indiana Radio History

Sign-on dates seem to be a prickly matter, subject to great debate, and mostly impossible to confirm. If there's something we need to add to the "calendar," please let us know. Please e-mail us if you have updated information.

July 9: In 2004, Indianapolis' WGRL (93.9fm) relaunches with a religious format as "The Song."

July 10: In 1983, Farm Director Jay Gould left WOWO Radio (1190am, Fort Wayne). Mr. Gould passed away in 1984.

July 15: In 1955, Channel 16 in South Bend signs on as WNDU-TV, owned by The University of Notre Dame. In 1974, Angola's WLKI signs on at 100.1fm. It's now on 100.3fm. In 1999, 92.9fm in Veedersburg signs on as WSKL.

That's all for this issue. Thank you for your continued support.
