Tops o' the news this issue is the unfortunate death of Bill Rice. Rice was the president of William R. Rice Co. He was shot to death on July 24, while serving duties as a receiver of a company (not broadcast related). The gunman's company was in receivership by Rice.

Northeast

An update on the Pathfinder Communications story involving a possible license revocation. The trial date is set for 6 October.

Interim PD Dane Daniels removes the "interim" from his title. He'll now be the PD at Country/WBTU (93.3fm, Kendallville).

Scott Kolesar, OM/PD at Alternative/WEJE (96.3fm, Churubusco), and OM at Modern AC/WYSR (94.1fm, Roanoke) exits. WEJE's APD/MD Weasel is upped to PD of WEJE, while Kris Underwood is the new PD at WYSR.

The Educational Media Foundation gets a CP for a translator on 91.3fm in Fort Wayne.

Northcentral

New to the GM slot at Mid America's stations in Kokomo (WHZR/WIOU/WZWZ) is Steve LaMar, former GSM for all three properties. Filling LaMar's position is Joan Lake.

American Family Association is on with a new translator, W217AT (91.3fm, Plymouth). All of American Family's stations relay WAFR in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Mid America's CP in Roann (101.9fm) finally has calls: WBFK.

Two companies file for the empty 88.5fm slot in Rochester: Rochester Community Radio, and the Christian Education Association.

Northwest

Steve O'Brien exits Country/WLJE (105.3fm, Valparaiso) for PD duties at WWQM in Madison, Wisconsin.

Lyle Evans' new station on 101.7fm in Kentland gets the calls WJOK.

Eastcentral

Greenfield Central Community Schools' new station at 89.7fm will have the calls WRGF.

Central

As a result of the FCC directive, Bill Shirk's Hoosier Broadcasting files a CP for WWRE to change transmitter location, ERP, and HAAT.

Over on the TV side: CBS affiliate WISH-TV (Channel 8, Indianapolis) will do its Digital TV broadcasting on Channel 9.

Westcentral

With the purchase of Hot AC/WCBH (104.3fm, Casey, Illinois) by the Discovery Group, the entire airstaff is let go.

Former CHR/WMGI (100.7fm, Terre Haute) PD Beau Richards is off to WAOA in Melbourne, Florida, starting in mid-August.

Southeast

Bill Shirk's Hoosier Broadcasting applies for a station on 99.3fm in Trafalgar.

Oldies/WINN & Country/WKKG (106.1fm, North Vernon; 101.5fm, Columbus) PD John Paul exits for APD/MD duties at WYRK in Buffalo, New York.

Indiana National Public Radio applies for a station on 88.1fm in Morristown.

The Bible Broadcasting Network has another translator up: W205BB (88.9fm, Bedford). All BBN stations relay WYFG in Gaffney, South Carolina.
