In a story you'll first read here, on September 12, Richard Miles will join as General Manager of Purdue University's WBAA(AM)/W290CM (920am, West Lafayette; 105.9fm, Lafayette) and WBAA-FM (101.3fm; West Lafayette). Mr. Miles currently serves as VP of Interactive Media and Content Strategy for Metropolitan Indianapolis Public Broadcasting's N-T/WFYI-FM (90.1fm, Indianapolis) and PBS affiliate/WFYI-TV (Channel 20, Indianapolis). Before joining WFYI, Mr. Miles worked for Butler University then-WAJC-FM and then-WTBU-TV. He also worked for then-WTPI ("Dave Mitchell") and for WFMS ("Rick Douglas").
A week ago, police arrested Entercom's CHR/WZPL (99.5fm, Greenfield) afternoon host Zach Babb ("Zakk On Air") after he crashed his SUV into another vehicle driven by an Indianapolis chef and restaurateur. IRW confirmed that Mr. Babb no longer works for Entercom. If you're interested in the job, please see our Employment Opportunities section.
Nexstar's CW affiliate/WISH-TV (Channel 8, Indianapolis) Noon and early evening anchor David Barras will retire on December 1, after 37 years with the TV station. Mr. Barras joined the WISH-TV in 1980 as a weekend assignment editor and reporter.
Where Are They Now? Former WISH-TV meteorologist Robb Ellis recently exited WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Ellis recently did some freelance work at both WRTV-TV (Channel 6, Indianapolis) and WCIA-TV in Chapaign, Illinois. Mr. Ellis announced on Facebook that he will soon join WBBM-TV in Chicago, Illinois.
Richard Brabandt sells his Oldies/WOCC (1550am, Corydon) for $115,000 to Two Hawks Communications (Dawn Fowler and Timothy Jackson). The sale doesn't include WOCC's FM translator W274AD (102.7fm, Corydon). That's owned by Keith Reising. WOCC runs 250 watts during the day and only 6 watts at night.
Over the weekend, IRW read an article which detailed WNIN Tri-State Public Media's NPR affiliate WNIN-FM (88.3fm, Evansville) updates to their newsroom, including a bilingual podcast and diversification efforts.
That's all for this issue. Thank you for your continued support.
