Station History

91.5fm signed on April 1, 1951 as WEVC.

WEVC-FM

WEVC signed on as the voice of Evansville College on April 1, 1951. Broadcasting only 10 watts with a monaural signal, the station served the college community with just a few hours of programming per day. In 1975, WEVC began broadcasting a stereo signal. Monies for the necessary stereo equipment was raised by staging a benefit concert at the Mesker Amphitheatre featuring rock acts Montrose, Ted Nugent, and the Outlaws.

WUEV-FM

WEVC became WUEV on January 1, 1977. The change reflected Evansville College's name change to The University of Evansville in 1967. In 1984, the FCC granted WUEV's power increase from 3000 watts to 6100 watts. In 1988, WUEV renovated their studios. On January 15, 1996, WUEV became the first radio station in Indiana to stream a radio signal via the Internet. Today, WUEV streams both its on-air signal and Internet-only broadcasts. WUEV opened the "Harlaxton Bureau" at the Univeristy of Evansville's campus in Grantham, England on July 30, 1997.
