Indiana RadioWatch: January 20, 2015
From the reading and watching pile, where I read (and watched) an interesting blog post last night: "TV News Directors Reveal Their Resume-Watching Secrets."
From the e-mail bag, where a reader asks about Fort Wayne radio:
WPTH 95.1 in the late 1970s aired TM's Stereo Rock. Our reader never knew if WPTH had some type of automation setup, or whether the tapes were operated manually? They had live announcers during PSA, news and weather breaks.
If you can help with this, please drop IRW a line. Thank you!
There's a beautiful new news set at Gray Television's NBC affiliate WNDU-TV (Channel 16, South Bend).
After a bit over three years, Leo Baldwin exits as PD at Radio One's Rhythmic CHR/WHHH (96.3fm, Indianapolis) and CHR/WNOW-FM (100.9fm, Speedway). Mr. Baldwin departed for an OM opportunity in West Palm Beach Florida, at the four radio station cluster owned by Palm Beach Broadcasting.
Let's break down replacements at E. St. Joseph's Street in downtown Indianapolis: First, Urban AC/WTLC-FM (106.7fm, Greenwood) PD Karen Vaughn adds WHHH PD responsibilities. Ms. Vaughn also does afternoons on WTLC-FM. Second, Mike Klein becomes the new PD for WNOW. Mr. Klein last programmed WNVZ in Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Klein will join WNOW-FM next Monday, and also have an airshift.
Jasper will soon have a new radio format on the air. Currently, Jasper on the Air's AC/WITZ(AM) (990am, Jasper) simulcasts its sister WITZ-FM (104.7fm; both Jasper) with the exception of a midday talk block. That's when the 1 kilowatt AM station breaks away and broadcasts Dave Ramsey until Noon and Rush Limbaugh at Noon until 3:00PM. While the Ramsey/Limbaugh syndicated talk duo will remain, the rest of the week will be a Regional Mexican format from Westwood One ("Fierro"). The new format should be in place by February 1, if not sooner.
Media General's CW affiliate WISH-TV (Channel 8, Indianapolis) welcomes Eboni Deon as a weekend meteorologist. An Indianapolis native, Ms. Deon last worked at Al Jazeera America in New York City.
Spring Arbor University temporarily silences its Michigan translators, including W246AU (97.1fm, Coldwater, Michigan).
Today in Indiana Radio History
In 1967, 105.5fm, West Terre Haute (WWVR) signs on. In 2007, Lafayette DJ "Marley" (Sean Beall) dies in apartment fire. He was 34.
