Indiana RadioWatch: February 5, 1998
Welcome to the premiere issue of Indiana RadioWatch. We'll be issuing this biweekly with a basic summary of the radio news here in Indiana. Here we go...
AOR/WXKE (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) morning man Doc West swaps shifts with afternoon guy Buzz Maxwell.
Talk/WGL (WGL(AM) & FM [1250am, Fort Wayne; 94.1fm, Roanoke]; and WGLL [1570am, Auburn]) drop talk for sports, primarily from One-on-One Sports. Don Imus does remain in mornings.
As a result of the switch in format, they drop G. Gordon Liddy, Tom Leykis, Art Bell, and local talk host Rusty Humphries all exit.
Alternative/WEJE (96.3fm, Churubusco) drops Jacobs Media as a consultant, so gone also is "The Edge" (Jacobs holds a servicemark on that term). Also, PD Sean Smyth departs for KGDE in Omaha, Nebraska.
AllAccess reports that Emmis' Classic Rock/WNAP (93.1fm, Indianapolis) adds Howard Stern in mornings. Stern will be heavy competition for hometown morning duo Bob & Tom, heard on crosstown SFX's Rock/WFBQ (94.7fm,
Indianapolis).
CHR/WNDU(AM) & FM (1490am, 92.9fm; both South Bend) PD/MD Bill Mitchell moves to WHDG in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where he will become PD and morning drive guy.
That's it for our premiere issue! See you in two weeks...
