Northeast

Shelly Steckler will become the GSM for Federated Media's Rock/WBYR (98.9fm, Woodburn). Ms. Steckler is a 22 year veteran of crosstown Sarkes Tarzian's Hot AC/WAJI (95.1fm, Fort Wayne) and Classic Hits/WLDE (101.7fm, Fort Wayne): Five years as an AE, ten years as WLDE GSM and 7 years as GM of both WAJI and WLDE, along with the recent addition of Alternative/WAJI-HD2 (95.1fm, Fort Wayne) also heard on translator W258BY (99.5fm, Fort Wayne).

The Allen County Public Library's LPFM WELT-LP (95.7fm, Fort Wayne) recently signed on for program testing. The official sign-on will be tomorrow. They're using a Crown FME 300 transmitter and the tower is above Kettler Hall on the IPFW Campus. It's the only LPFM in the nation that's run by a public library. DTV America's CP for LPTV W29DX-D (Channel 29, Fort Wayne) changes call letters to WEDX-LD. As proposed, the LPTV station will transmit from the Monroeville tower of WQHK-FM.

Where Are They Now? Chad Mitchell is now morning co-host at KOOL-FM in Phoenix, Arizona (starting yesterday). While in Fort Wayne, he was the producer for the locally hosted "Rusty Humphries Show" on then-Talk/WGL (1250am, Fort Wayne), before Humphries became a syndicated talk show host.

Where Are They Now? Former then-"Rewind 106.3" and "Hot 107.9" Fort Wayne DJ "Nugget" exits KTFM in San Antonio, Texas for mornings at WHBQ-FM in Memphis, Tennessee.

Northcentral

Mid-West Family Broadcasting and its affiliate WSJM, Inc. closes on the $5.5 million purchase of Country/WHFB-FM (99.9fm, Benton Harbor, Michigan), AC/WNSN (101.5fm, South Bend), News-Sports/WSBT (960am, South Bend) and translator W241AD (96.1fm, South Bend), and Classic Hits/WZOC (94.3fm, Plymouth). Bob Heymann of the Chicago office of Media Services Group served as the exclusive broker representing Mid-West Family Broadcasting in this transaction. Under new ownership, the radio stations will continue operating from the Schurz Communications building on East Douglas Road in Mishawaka, under the leadership of GM Jim Roberts. Mid-West Family Broadcasting now owns 43 radio stations in 8 radio markets under five separate broadcast companies.

Grey Television Group, Inc. closes on its purchase of the broadcast assets of Schurz Communications, Inc. The above radio sale was a spinoff from that purchase. As Grey owns NBC affiliate WNDU-TV (Channel 16, South Bend), they spun Schurz's CBS-affiliate WSBT-TV (Channel 22, South Bend) to Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Northwest

Neuhoff Media closes on its $8 million purchase of Schurz Communications' Lafayette cluster. As mentioned above, Grey Television Group closed yesterday on its purchase of the broadcast assets of Schurz Communications, Inc. This sale to Newhoff was a spinoff from that purchase. The Lafayette portfolio includes Sports/WASK (1450am, Lafayette), Classic Hits/WASK-FM (98.7fm, Battle Ground), Rock/WKHY (93.5fm, Lafayette), Country/WKOA (105.3fm, Lafayette), and CHR/WXXB (102.9fm, Delphi). This becomes Neuhoff's sixth market. The Neuhoff retained the legal counsel of Washington, DC law firm Schwartz, Woods & Miller.

Eastcentral

Mike Christopher becomes the GSM for the Hoosier AM/FM station group in both Marion and Kokomo. Their portfolio includes: Talk/WBAT (1400am, Marion), Sports/WIOU (1350am, Kokomo), AC/WZWZ (92.5fm, Kokomo), Sports/WMRI (860am, Marion), Hot AC/WXXC (106.9fm, Marion), Rock/WMYK (98.5fm, Peru), and Country/WCJC (99.3fm, Van Buren). Mr. Christopher was GM at Cumulus' Country/WWKI (100.5fm, Kokomo) for many years.

Central

Kay Feeney-Caito returns to radio, as Director of Marketing for the Entercom Indianapolis cluster: Sports/WXNT (1430am, Indianapolis), Hot AC/WZPL (99.5fm, Greenfield) and AC/WNTR (107.9fm, Indianapolis). Ms. Feeney-Caito was Promotions Director of WZPL from 1990 until 1993. She's also worked at WFBQ and WFMS and the Radio One radio stations. For the past several years, she's had her own PR firm.

Where Are They Now? Former Indianapolis PD (WKLU, WNTR, WXNT) and APD/MD (WLHK) and DJ (then-WGLD) Scott Roddy will become PD at St. Louis' WIL-FM. Mr. Roddy also programmed WBTU in Fort Wayne. Mr. Roddy last programmed at Saga Communications' Bellingham, Washington radio stations. Mr. Roddy begins at WIL-FM on Monday February 29.

Southeast

The City of Charlestown, Indiana CP for an LPFM radio station now has call letters WPMQ-LP (99.3fm, Charlestown).

89.1 WBOI (NPR News and Diverse Music), and Classical 94.1 WBNI seek a Chief Engineer for the two public radio stations serving Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana. We are a growing organization in the process of relocating to a new facility in two-to-three years, which will include substantial investments in new equipment, new studios and production facilities. You will be an important part of our team while enjoying considerable autonomy and responsibility as our Chief Engineer.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for all technical and building operations and maintenance. Position reports directly to General Manager, and works closely with the Program Director and other staff. Occasional night and weekend work is necessary, with availability to respond 24/7 as needed. You must have the technical knowledge to operate and maintain two radio stations and all associated operations, be able to climb ladders, work in small spaces and have the ability to lift 50 pounds. The ability to solve problems, think creatively, work independently, and troubleshoot is highly valued.

Requirements:

AASEET Degree or similar
5 or more years of radio broadcast engineering experience
Knowledge of FM broadcast and STL transmission systems including combiners
Ability to troubleshoot and repair FM and HD transmitters and associated equipment
Minimum 3 years of experience with Broadcast Electronics AudioVault Delivery Systems for both time-based and control-based satellite automation
New construction involving studio and transmitter sites
Familiarity with FCC rules and regulations
Network administration and IT support for Microsoft Windows Server and Windows 7 & 8 operating systems
PBX management
Drafting budgets for expenses, capital expenditures, and projects
Valid driver's license and means of transportation

The following experience will be particularly beneficial:
· Work with AudioVault FLeX
· Experience with Axia Livewire or Wheatstone Wheat-Net audio over IP solutions
· Knowledge of IP based phone systems
· Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange

WFNI and WIBC-HD2 is looking for an experienced sports talk pro in both the on-air and administrative realms to join the staff as an Executive Producer. This person must be able to perform a variety of tasks on a daily basis, primarily from a behind-the-scenes standpoint, but also might be needed to fill-in when necessary in a show-host role and/or a sports anchor standpoint.

* Development of producers
* Fill-in duties for talk show hosts when necessary
* Administrative duties like affidavits, Tag Station responsibilities, working with Triton digital
