When I first wrote this story, I misread the FCC decision. And that lead to an incorrect story. I apologize, and let's fix what I incorrectly reported: The FCC determined there was no problem with WSRC (88.1fm, Waynetown) antenna height. However, the FCC did make a mistake (and admitted that) when they granted permission for Calvary Chapel to put both WSRC and WVRG-LP (93.9fm, Crawfordsville) on the air. Since I wrote that story, Calvary Chapel of Crawfordsville silenced and turned in the WVRG-LP license, which allowed Calvary Chapel of Crawfordsville to file a license to cover for its WSRC.

Northeast

Radio bombshells don't happen often in Fort Wayne, but yesterday's radio station sale announcement seemed to catch many by surprise. Let's add some information to what the national 'radio media' already covered:

Adams Radio Group owned several radio stations in the 1990s: KZOK(AM)/FM in Seattle, Washington, KCBQ(AM)/FM in San Diego, California, KOOL(AM)/FM in Phoenix, Arizona, KISS(AM)/FM in San Antonio, Texas, WLAV(AM)/FM in Grand Rapids, Michigan, among others. The Adams portfolio had roughly 15 radio stations in all.

Adams Radio Group returned to national ownership in late 2013 with a group acquisition in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Adams Radio is based in Lakeville, Minnesota and headed by president and CEO Ron Stone. Yesterday, Adams announced the $6.4 million purchase of the Summit City Radio Group radio stations, along with the Oasis Radio Group stations, giving them 6 FMs and 1 AM. That's too many radio stations on the FM dial for Adams, so let's detail how the chips appear to fall:

Summit City Radio Group contains Rhythmic CHR/WNHT (96.3fm, Churubusco), Classic Rock/WXKE (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) and Oldies/WGL (1250am, Fort Wayne) and WGL-FM (102.9fm, Huntington).

Oasis Radio Group contains Country/WBTU (93.3fm, Kendallville), Rhythmic AC/WHPP (106.3fm, Columbia City) and Rhythmic CHR/WJFX (107.9fm, New Haven).

Working with Valparaiso-based Calvary Radio Network, Adams will swap WGL-FM for translator W277AK (103.3fm, Fort Wayne) for no cash.

Working with Fort Wayne Catholic Radio Group, Adams will swap WHPP for Religious/WLYV (1450am, Fort Wayne) for no cash.

Fort Wayne Catholic Radio Group gains an FM presence with WHPP. I haven't heard whether that changes anything from the proposed $113,000 sale of translator CP W258BY (99.5fm, Fort Wayne) from Northeast Indiana Public Radio to Fort Wayne Catholic Radio Group.

Will the newly formed Adams Radio have studios at Lower Huntington Road, where Summit City now resides, or on Coldwater Road, north of Wallen Road, where Oasis Radio now resides?
