A tip of the IRW cap to Homestead High School station WCYT (91.1fm, Lafayette Township): They won "High School Radio Station of the Year" at the annual Indiana Association of School Broadcasters Conference and Awards. This is the first time "91.1 The Point" ever won Station of the Year, and Adam Schenkel serves as faculty advisor and station manager.

LaPorte County Broadcasting's Oldies/WLOI (1540am, La Porte) and Country/WCOE (96.7fm, La Porte) file Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. Ken Coe owned 38 percent of the company upon his death late last year. Also, Ken's brother John Coe is both an officer and director at Hayco Broadcasting, which owns an AM/FM combo in Celina, Ohio.

Fayette County Emergency Management had a CP for WEJK-LP (100..7fm, Connersville). The FCC denied their license to cover, as WEJK-LP proposed an effective radiated power of 27 watts, and the minimum power for LPFMs is 47 watts. We noticed that the CP expired in January, and the FCC recently deleted the record.

Brewer Broadcasting/Richmond Production Director Joe Winters retired last Friday, two days shy of his 44th anniversary with the company. Mr. Winters started at the station in 1973 while still in high school and held positions in programming and traffic before becoming Production Director in the early 1980's. Joe won numerous Indiana Broadcasters Association awards for his excellence in broadcasting. Michael Evans succeeds Mr. Winters as Production Director, after stints with Ball State University (WCRD), Woof Boom Radio and Backyard Broadcasting.
