From the reading pile: A Blueprint for How to Make J-School Matter (Again).
From the reading pile: "New No More," from Sarah Bartlett, Dean, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. Professor Bartlett reflects on her first year as dean, and the constant demand to keep journalism curricumulum relevant.
Now, onto the news.
Remembering Charlie Sears:
I met Charlie in the summer of 2010, while on a mid-west tower photography tour excursion. Charlie was so gracious to take time out of this (very hot) day to give me, and two other friends a tour that was amongst the tops of that trip. He was very proud of the Trafalgar site and happy to show us around the property. I know he was a very well respected engineer, and will be missed by many in Mid-west for this engineering work. As well as by us, who had the great pleasure of meeting him.
RIP Charlie.

I owe much to Charlie Sears. He and Norm Beaty helped me turn WJNZ-FM around in the early 1990s. Charlie was an engineer's engineer...one who could diagnose and fix discrete electrical circuits. He taught me how to replace a 1954 Gates transmitter output tube socket over the telephone and get it to work the first time. He should have been a rich man, but it was his love of radio, TV, transmitters, electronics and his family that were the center of his life. Charlie was a rich man because of the love he engendered to all whom knew him well.

Word Power Inc. applies to move its CP for translator W232CJ (94.3fm, Casey, IL) to 94.7fm. There, it will increase power to 250 watts at 164 feet. Of note: Word Power owns Religious/WKZI (800am, Casey, Illinois).
David Ballinger recently passed away. Mr. Ballinger did play by play sports for WLKI in Angola for parts of four decades. When he wasn't at the microphone, he was an accomplished community banker. Mr. Ballinger was 67 years old

Calvary Radio Network will sell its translator W251AR (98.1fm, Goshen) to IB Communications for $54,000. IB will use the translator to add an FM presence for their Regional Mexican/WKAM (1460am, Goshen).
