Emmis N-T/WIBC (1070am, Indianapolis) news anchor/reporter Leigh DeNoon began last Wednesday (1 June) as any normal day. When she was handed news that an armed gunman took a woman hostage inside a nearby Shelbyville convenience store, DeNoon called the store, instinctively wanting all the details. She got more than she bargained for, as the armed gunman answered the phone. According to published reports, DeNoon talked with the gunman while other WIBC staffers alerted the police. The gunman asked DeNoon to call a woman in Cincinnati. The hostage situation ended Thursday with the gunman (Dennis McAninch) killing himself inside the convenience store.

Last July, Brown pretended to be a staff member of Emmis' CHR/WNOU (93.1fm, Indianapolis). Brown solicited males to come to his house, undress, and have a chance to win a radio contact prize of $50,000 cash or a new car. Brown was found earlier this year to be guilty of felony criminal confinement and identity deception charges. In addition to jail time, Brown was ordered to serve probation.
