WHFB Broadcast Associates LP sells its silent WHFB (1060am, Benton Harbor, Michigan) to the Federighi family's Gerard Media for $175,000. Gerard Media begins an LMA and will put five thousand watt WHFB back on the air. WHFB's former
sister WHFB-FM does a country format, under Douglas Road Radio ownership. Gerard Media also owns hybrid Talk and Classic Hits formatted WIMS (1420am, Michigan City). WHFB(AM) went silent in June 2012, another economic victim.
Talking Stick Communications' Sports/WAOR (95.7fm, Nappanee) adds Dial Global's NBC Sports Radio weekdays afternoons, evenings and weekends, under PD "Ragz."
Northwest
Back in May, Columbia College Chicago honored Leonard Ellis (B.A., 1952) as one of its Alumni of the Year. "Uncle Len" Ellis founded northwest Indiana's Radio One Communications, which owns four radio stations: Oldies/WAKE (1500am,
Valparaiso), Country/WLJE (105.5fm, Valparaiso), Classic Rock/WXRD (103.9fm, Crown Point) and AC/WZVN (107.1fm, Lowell). Mr. Ellis has over sixty five years in radio and forty eight years at WAKE(AM). In 1957, Mr. Ellis also worked
with a group that co-founded the Country Music Association (CMA) and he holds card number one as a CMA charter member.

Chase Daniels becomes MD and morning host at Entercom Hot AC/WNTR (107.9fm, Indianapolis) beginning next week Monday. Mr. Daniels recently left WSTR in Atlanta, Georgia, where he hosted afternoons. Mr. Daniels' move to Indianapolis
reunites him with WNTR OM J.R. Ammons who once worked as PD at WSTR (The Ammons-and-Daniels duo also worked together at WAPE in Jacksonville, Florida).
Dispatch Broadcasting's NBC affiliate WTHR-TV (Channel 13, Indianapolis) producer Mike Wilhite exits after sixteen years and moves to Albuquerque, New Mexico and KOAT-TV as their new evening Executive Producer.
Westcentral
Lin Media's CBS affiliate WTHI-TV will soon have two new retirees: Jim Swander and Mark Allen. Mr. Swander (Local Sales Manager) and Mr. Allen (Managing Editor and Evening Anchor) will retire next month. Let's start on-screen: In
1967, Mr. Allen began his TV career at WTWO, where he spent twenty three years, eventually becoming Assistant GM. In 1990, Mr. Allen left WTWO and moved to WTHI-TV. After Mr. Allen retires, sister LIN Media anchor Mike Cleff will
move from Lafayette (WLFI-TV) to Terre Haute.
Southeast
Ryan Media's Sports WQKC (1450am, Jeffersonville) returns to its roots by changing its call letters back to the original WXVW, used from their 1961 sign on for the next thirty five years.
Today in Indiana Radio History
On Monday 17 June 1968, 1090am signed on in Fort Wayne. Today, it's WFCV.
In 1984 (but not a Monday!), 90.3fm in Covington signed on. Today, it's WFOF.
