Just a reminder: The NAB 2014 Radio Show will be September 10 through September 12 in Indianapolis.

Northeast

As we reported in the last IRW, 103.9fm in Fort Wayne went briefly off the air while tower crews moved the 103.9fm antenna to a new tower site. Adams Radio Group Chief Engineer Phil Jennings removed the old Energy-Onix Eco4 transmitter and replaced it with a BE FMI 402 HD transmitter. 103.9fm came back on the air with a recorded loop. The loop sounded like an on-hold message (e.g. "Your music is important to us. 103.9 will be right with you.") On Friday 20 June at 10:39PM (Seems apropos...), Adams Radio Group flipped its WWFW (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) to Soft AC, as "Soft Rock 103.9" under GM Shel Leshner and new PD Robbie Mack. Here's the first hour:

"Celebration" (Kool and the Gang)
"It Must Have Been Love" (Roxette)
"Just the Way You Are" (Bruno Mars)
"One of These Nights" (The Eagles)
"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" (Hall and Oates)
"Just Give Me a Reason" (Pink)
"What's Going On" (Marvin Gaye)
"If This Is It" (Huey Lewis and the News)
"1, 2, 3, 4" (Plain White T's)
"Didn't We Almost Have It All" (Whitney Houston)
"Ho Hey" (The Lumineers)
"Tiny Dancer" (Elton John)
"Borderline" (Madonna)
"When It's Over" (Sugar Ray)
"You Are Not Alone" (Michael Jackson)

Where Are They Now? Former "Rewind 106.3" and "Hot 107.9" Fort Wayne DJ "Nugget" makes the leap to San Antonio, Texas and the morning co-host chair at KTFM. L&L Broadcasting owns KTFM, and former "Rewind" and "Hot" GM Phil Becker recently became L&L Broadcasting VP/Programming.

Northcentral

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend earns a CP for WREF-LP (104.3fm, Elkhart). The 16 watt at 242 feet LPFM will broadcast from a tower on County Road 20, east of IN-17 in Goshen.

Schurz Communications' CBS-affiliate WSBT-TV (Channel 22, South Bend) adds meteorologist Ed Russo. Mr. Russo last worked in Erie, Pennsylvania, as morning meteorologist at WICU-TV/WSEE-TV.

Northwest

Family Stations, Inc. receives a Construction Permit for translator W294BX (106.7fm, Benton Harbor, Michigan). As proposed, the translator will broadcast from a tower near Lake Michigan, east of MI-63, north of Benton Harbor.

Eastcentral

Woof Boom Radio's Country/WMQX (96.7fm, Alexandria) flips call letters to WBKQ, thus better matching its new "Blake FM" moniker.

A correction: Before we leave East 29th Street, we'll tip our cap to Woof Boom Chief Engineer Sean Mattingly, who recently celebrated his thirtieth year in radio. Mr. Mattingly began working at what's now WMXQ (93.5fm, Hartford City) in 1984 (originally WWHC, Mr. Mattingly reminds us).

Since then, WMXQ became part of a six radio station cluster. Mr. Mattingly says he's worked for seven different owners ("Each better than the previous one"), and estimates he's met roughly three hundred employees in those thirty years.

Central

A correction: The new Emmis' N-T/WIBC (93.1fm, Indianapolis) morning host is Tony Katz, not Jeff Katz.

Tribune Broadcasting's FOX affiliate WXIN-TV (Channel 59, Indianapolis) airs over sixty hours of local news each week. Yesterday, WXIN announced they will share news content and promote news coverage with The Indianapolis Star. The partnership begins on August 1. Both the TV station and newspaper will keep separate newsrooms. While the details still haven't been fully worked out, the two media organizations will offer joint coverage of breaking news stories, election coverage and weather coverage. In the future, Investigative pieces might have reporter bylines from both FOX59 and the Star.

Also, WXIN-TV (Channel 59, Indianapolis) and CW affiliate WTTV-TV (Channel 4, Bloomington)/WTTK-TV (Channel 29, Kokomo) welcome Sarah Jacobs as GSM. Ms. Jacobs last worked for Sinclair in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, she was Local Sales Manager at WKRC-TV.

A former Indianapolis radio news director passed away. Norm Lumpkin was 75 and worked for WTLC radio in the late 1960s.

Kaspar Broadcasting modified the CP for its translator at 105.1fm, licensed to Noblesville. The new CP calls for a move to 94.3fm and a power increase from 40 watts to 170 watts from the same tower as Inter Mirifica's Catholic Religious/WSQM (90.9fm, Noblesville), which is the former WHMB-TV transmitter site along IN-238. What was W286CM is now W232CP.

Westcentral

After nearly 45 years in broadcasting, Barry Kent will soon retire from Emmis Communications' Country/WTHI-FM (99.9fm, Terre Haute). And, he blogs about it. Also, midday host Diane House exits.

Southwest

Townsquare Media's Classic Hits/WJLT (105.3fm, Evansville) will flip format next week to sports, using ESPN Radio. All of WJLT's airstaff exit: Dave Westrich, Julie Michaels, Johnny Kincaid, and Gavin Eddings.

WJLT flipping format means The Original Company's Sports/WYFX (106.7fm, Mount Vernon) (already) flipped format from Sports to Talk. The new weekday lineup:

The Wall Street Journal This Morning (5am until 8am)
Brian Kilmeade ("Kilmead and Friends") (8am until 11am)
John Gibson Show (11am until 2pm)
Tom Sullivan ("Tom Sullivan Radio Show") (2pm until 5pm)
All About Sports with Dan Egerski (5pm until 6pm)
Andy Dean ("America Now with Andy Dean") (6pm until 9pm)
Michael Savage (9pm until 12am)
Jon Grayson ("Overnight America with Jon Grayson") (12am until 5am)

Raycom Media's NBC affiliate WFIE-TV (Channel 14, Evansville) promotes Brandon Bartlett to weekday 4pm anchor. Mr. Bartlett shared that he will also eventually anchor the Sunday evening newscast along with the Monday through Thursday 4pm newscast.
