The Lafayette Journal and Courier reports that Oldies/WIBN (98.1fm, Earl Park) is operating at roughly half its normal power due to vandals striking its transmitter and tower site. After a DJ noticed the tower lights out last Sunday night (20 September), the station engineer arrived at the site and noticed damage to the transmitter. The engineer also noticed some tower lights had been shot out. .22 caliber bullets were found in place of the lights, and damage to the antenna line was also found. WIBN APD Ken Stapleton said there was no property stolen. A 23 September update on WIBN's website says the damage was "much worse than expected" and full power should be restored within two weeks. Anyone having information regarding this crime should call the Benton County Sheriff's Department at 765.884.0080.
