Station History

1450am signed on March 28, 1948.

WINT(AM)

WANE(AM)

Owned by Radio Fort Wayne, Inc. As WANE(AM), Shepard Broadcasting may have owned the station. The WANE(AM) studios were located at the former Commerce Building (later named the Fort Wayne National Bank Building) at 127 West Berry Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802. This would be the shorter building next to taller 26-story PNC Center (formerly the "National City Center")

WLYV(AM) (Take 1)

The former WLYV was a hayday station of the 1960's - The proverbial David to Golliath WOWO(AM). WLYV began its rock and roll format in 1966. In the Fall of 1968, WLYV beat WOWO by 1 point in the Arbitron (12+) ratings. This was a feat, as WLYV was running a mere 481 watts to WOWO's 50,000 watts. WLYV switched formats to Country on March 14, 1974 (Shepard Broadcasting owned the station). WLYV had some prominent ownership for a time. Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus owned the station from March 14, 1974 until 1980 under the corporate name "Golden Bear Broadcasting." WLYV once was located in the Anthony Wayne Bank Building (Suite 925) (Telephone: 219.743.3443). WLYV then broadcast at 1000 watts - day, 250 watts - night.

WAFX(AM)

Standards format. Studios located at 424 Reed Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46815-7246. Sister station to then WEZV-FM? WAFX was sold in 1982.

WEZR(AM)

WEZR(AM) was a Chicago Cubs affiliate.

WLYV(AM) (Take 2)

1450 uses WLYV's call letters again, but over several owners. Fairfield Broadcasting owned the radio station. During Fairfield's ownership, the studios were at 424 Reed Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46815-7246 (Telephone: 219.749.4600). WLYV then became a religious station, with studios formerly located alongside Illinois Road in southwestern Fort Wayne. WLYV went through several slogan changes, and a few minor format modifications, but stayed true to religious programming. In December 2002, parent company Midwest Broadcasting Corporation changed names to Christian Broadcasting System. In August 2005, Christian Broadcasting System sold WLYV for $700,000 to Fort Wayne Catholic Radio Group, Inc. (Redeemer Radio). Studios formerly located at 4705 Illinois Road, Suite 100, Fort Wayne, IN 46804-5108. Studios later moved to 4618 East State Blvd. Ste. 200, Fort Wayne, IN 46815-6966. When Redeemer Radio owned WLYV, their website was http://www.wlyv.com. In February 2014, Fort Wayne Catholic Radio Group, Inc. (Redeemer Radio) announced a swap with Adams Radio Group, Inc. whereby Adams swapped its WHPP to Fort Wayne Catholic Radio Group, Inc. (Redeemer Radio) for WLYV. WLYV became a talk station ("1450 The Patriot") on Monday 7 July 2014.
