Station History

WHBU signed on in April 1923. In 1930, it was on the air at 1210am (100 watts). Was a CBS affiliate. The Anderson Broadcasting Corp. once owned WHBU. WHBU had its studio and transmitter in The Citizens Bank Building on Meridian Plaza in downtown Anderson. WHBU was sold (along with nee WAXT in November 1998 to Michael Schwartz's Indiana Radio Properties for an estimated $2 million. In July 2001, Michael Schwartz' Indiana Radio Partners sold nee WHTI, nee WHTY, WERK, WURK and WHBU for $8 million purchase from Sabre Communications, Inc. Backyard Broadcasting sold all of its Muncie radio stations in April 2013 for $4.45 million to Woof Boom Radio. On November 4, 2014, WHBU added an FM signal, via translator W279CL.
